You may contact us by phone, e-mail or via the electronic form found on this website. When booking your ride you will be asked about your previous riding experience – please be honest reporting this. An “experienced rider” for us means a person who is skilled in all the gaits and this includes galloping in open spaces and also with young horses. If you are not yet comfortable with this don’t worry as every ride is planned individually to meet the riders’ skills. Please also notify us beforehand if you have a condition or illness that your riding instructor should know about.
Cancellations must be made 24 hours before the ride.
On behalf of Kainuun Vaellustalli the ride may be cancelled due to following reasons:
The rides are tailored to suit the skills of the group which means that previous riding experience is not mandatory: the groups are organized according to skill levels (beginner, intermediate, experienced). We will not allow a beginner level customer to attend a ride designed for experienced riders. Do not give false information about your skill level.
All participants must be physically fit enough for participating. Persons under the influence of intoxicants or otherwise behaving inappropriately will not be allowed to attend. Riding while you are pregnant is not possible at Kainuun Vaellustalli.
The age limit for riding trips is 12 years, for riding lessons 9 years (if the child has no previous riding experience) and the rider weight limit is 80-90 kg depending on the horse (the Icelandic horse is a pony sized breed). Temperature limits for winter riding are -18 Celcius / 1 hour trip and -15 Celcius / 2 hour trip.
We plan all our activities with an emphasis on safety and withhold the right to discontinue the ride should the safety of the customer and/or horse so require. If the discontinuation is due to a customer’s disregard for given instructions the price of the ride will not be compensated to the customer in question.
No previous experience necessary (if over 12 years of age). You may have tried horseback riding one or few times or you have not yet finished your beginner course at a riding school. On this level we will ride walk, trot and tölt.
On this level you are able to ride an experienced and calm horse in all the gaits: you can do rising trot, you know how to take up canter and slow down from canter in a controlled way. With intermediate groups we will ride walk, trot, tölt and canter.
On this level you are able to control different kinds of horses (including young horses) in open spaces in all the gaits. Your seat/position is steady also in half seat and at a faster speed. With experienced groups we will ride walk, trot, tölt and (possibly fast) canter.
We accept cash and common credit cards.
Kainuun Vaellustalli is a member of the Equestrian Federation of Finland and our customers are insured for accidents through this membership.
Each rider must wear a riding helmet on horseback at all times. In addition to the helmet we also provide you with clothing according to the weather: breeches or winter riding overalls, boots with heels (and winter socks), as well as gloves for loan are all included in the price of the ride. We also have waterproofs in case of rain. If you should need a very small size please check the availability beforehand.
You can also use your own riding gear if you like but these have to be approved by our instructor. All gear must be washed in 60 C or desinfected prior to bringing it to our stable if it has been used elsewhere. Note that your own helmet must meet current safety standards and riding boots must have heels. Breeches are not warm enough for riding in winter so you will need warm winter pants & jacket if you do not wish to use the overalls we provide. Winter boots must be warm and warm socks should be worn with them. Wearing a long-sleeved shirt and gloves is always recommended, even during the summer months.
Extra items or back bags are not allowed on the rides. If you need a bag for carrying medication etc. please ask your instructor to give you one. You may take your mobile phone with you on silent mode. If you would like to take photos during the ride please mention this to your instructor before the ride. Your instructor always has a mobile phone with her together with a first aid kit and route maps in the saddle bags of the leading horse.
The tightness of the girth and the length of the stirrups will be checked for everyone before heading off. We will also instruct you on the correct way of mounting (no kicking the horse’s sides or falling down on the saddle heavily) so please wait until you are given the permission to mount.
In the forest everyone must stay in line, riding on the place designated for you by your instructor (overtaking another rider in the line is forbidden). You may encounter wild animals, for example deer, in the forest but our horses are used to them. Listen carefully to what your instructor says and have a wonderful ride!
